Complaint Procedures

Our commitment. We want to know when something is not working. If you have a concern about your matter, your bill, or how you have been treated, we would rather hear it directly and early.

Step one: contact us. Raise your concern with Dr. Nick K. Gera at info@geralawfirm.com or 919-729-2929. Written concerns help us respond precisely, so we encourage you to put the issue in writing if you can. We will acknowledge your concern promptly and respond substantively as soon as we reasonably can after reviewing the file.

Step two: fee disputes. If your concern is about legal fees and we cannot resolve it between us, you may seek assistance through the North Carolina State Bar's Fee Dispute Resolution Program. This is a free, voluntary mediation program available to clients of North Carolina lawyers. Information is available from the North Carolina State Bar at 919-828-4620 or ncbar.gov.

Step three: professional conduct concerns. North Carolina lawyers are regulated by the North Carolina State Bar, which investigates allegations that a lawyer has violated the Rules of Professional Conduct. You have the right to contact the State Bar's Grievance Committee directly, whether or not you have raised the matter with us first.

Utah matters. For matters involving the firm's Utah practice, concerns may also be directed to the Utah State Bar's Office of Professional Conduct.

File access. You are entitled to your client file. Request a copy at any time and we will provide it consistent with the North Carolina Rules of Professional Conduct.

Retaliation. Raising a concern or contacting a bar authority will not affect the quality of representation you receive. We will continue to handle your matter with the same diligence.
